BACKSTAGE TAIWAN 2026 |

🌍

BACKSTAGE TAIWAN 2026

Your parents call it home.
You've never seen the real thing.

You've studied Chinese for years. This is where it becomes real.

3AM wholesale markets. Wetland conservation in frog gear.
A Taiwanese classmate who knows every shortcut in the city you've only seen as a tourist.

Six days behind the scenes — with teammates your age, making a film about what you find.

6 days · 5 nights Real-world service learning 40-hour official certification Taiwan–US mixed teams
Three Backstage Scenes

Every city has its own backstage.
Here are three missions waiting for you.

🌃

3AM. You're inside Taipei's biggest wholesale produce market.

This is where the city's food supply gets sorted, priced, and shipped before sunrise. A tomato that doesn't look perfect sells for less. You'll see exactly why — and who decides.

Your mission: Learn the unwritten rules of wholesale produce from the people who live them every night. Then put it all in your film.
🐸

You're in frog gear, standing in a Taoyuan pond.

Taoyuan has thousands of these ponds — an ancient irrigation system that most people drive past without a second look. They're also a critical habitat. And they need people to show up and do the work.

Your mission: Complete a habitat survey. Document what you find in the water. Then put it in your film.
📱

A Taiwanese classmate is taking you somewhere tourists don't go.

You've been to Taiwan before. You've done the night markets, the temples, the mountain views. This is different. This is their actual Tuesday.

Your mission: See the city through someone who grew up here — and show them what your life in the US actually looks like. Then put both sides in your film.

* Actual program locations vary by city session (Taipei / New Taipei / Taoyuan). Full itinerary available on the program page.

The YouTuber Track

Six days.
One real YouTube film.

  • Not a school project. Not a slideshow for your parents.
  • From Day 1, your team has a camera and a mission.
  • Every place you visit, you ask the same question:
"How do we show this to someone who will never come here?"

On the last day, you put it all together — a film about the Taiwan most people never see.
The workers, the communities, the daily lives behind the island your family comes from.

No editing experience required.
Just show up, pay attention, and be willing to tell the story.

For Parents

Why this trip is worth it.

🌍

A real connection to Taiwan — not a tour

Most Taiwanese-American kids know Taiwan through family visits and night markets. This is something different: six days embedded in local communities, working alongside Taiwanese peers the same age.

📜

40-hour certification + AVSA eligibility

Each session earns 40 official hours, certified by WCEO. Students who accumulate 100+ hours can apply for the American Volunteer Service Award (AVSA) — open to all nationalities. A concrete addition to any college application.

🏛

30 years. 50,000+ alumni. Government-partnered.

WCEO was founded in Fremont, California in 1994. Three decades of family education, cultural programs, and Asian-American youth development — training over 50,000 young people. Not a new program. A proven institution.
